The Mayan Apocalypse In Russia

December 21, 2012 marks the end of the 5,125-year-long Mayan Long Count calendar. There are many people across the globe that believe that the world will end on this date… I was first exposed to this apocalyptic prediction by watching the movie “2012”, starring John Cusack. It’s pretty good. I recommend it. But, do I believe the world will end? Continue reading for my answer…

There are thousands — possibly millions — who believe the world WILL end on December 21, 2012. Panic buying of candles and essentials has been reported in China and Russia, and survival shelters have seen an explosion in sales here in the United States.

In Russia, residents of Omutninsk in the Kirov region rushed to buy kerosene and other supplies after a newspaper article confirmed the end of the world. This article was supposedly written by a Tibetan monk. I, myself, had no idea that Tibetan monks were experts at Mayan history or the Mayan calendar… The city of Novokuznetsk faced a run on salt… Sure would hate to face the apocalypse without plenty of salt, wouldn’t you?

Russian Prime Minister and former President Dmitriy Medvedev even addressed the apocalypse:

“I don’t believe in the end of the world…At least, not this year.”

I think the idea of the apocalypse is absolutely silly. If the world was coming to an end, there would be no point in buying and stocking up on supplies that you wouldn’t need! You would be dead after all, because it would be the end of the world…Thus, the world would be no more. But what do I know?

The apocalypse might come one day, but not on December 21, 2012. Instead, the apocalypse is most likely billions of years in the future when the sun grows large enough to make life on our planet impossible. So if you’re worried about December 21st, stop worrying because the apocalypse is far, far in the future.

And the Mayans never said the world would end on December 21, 2012. In fact, the Mayans wrote dates thousands of years past that date which contradict the apocalyptic predictions that many believe in.

So, if you believe in this silliness. Please calm down and relax. Will the world end? No. It’ll just be another day:).
